Kyrie Irving will not play another game for the Dallas Mavericks this summer, but he presumably still has a future with the team.
This injury from Irving has people questioning what’s next for him and his team.
Will they give him a max contract extension, offer him less, or let him walk?
Speaking on his podcast, Patrick Beverley said the Mavericks should definitely give Irving a maximum extension when they can.

Beverley admitted that the Mavericks are in a very difficult position right now.
They lost Luka Doncic and then Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and other players all got injured.
That may have cost them the rest of this season, but it means they need to start planning ahead and figure out what comes next.
Beverley believes that Irving should be judged based on how well he played before he got hurt.
He was averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game before his ACL mishap.
Those are great numbers and in any other situation, they would easily earn him a max extension.
But the Mavericks have to think about numerous things, including other players on the roster, recruiting new talent, and Irving’s health moving forward.
What if he comes back but isn’t his regular self?
What if Irving never fully recovers from this ACL injury?
There is a lot to think about and it’s not a black-and-white, cut-and-dry situation.
Irving has a player option for next season and most people believe he will pick that up.
That means the ball will be in Dallas’ court and they will have to decide how much they want to offer and if they still see Irving as the future of the team.
